Yes, it is May 1 and yes it is snowing…
Well, things have calmed down. Dick hasn’t tried to call me for a few days and life is fairly normal. The house, however, is a mess and I can’t do anything about it until the 90 days have passed.
In some ways, it is kind of an adventure. Camping out in your own house has its own kind of charm, sort of.
Dick did try and clean out the construction account, but the mortgage broker thought something was fishy and called me. She told me that Dick had submitted a request for a draw, but my signature looked a little strange, so she decided to call me and make sure everything was ok. I told her what was going on and that I wasn’t aware of a draw being submitted so asked her to fax me a copy of it. The SOB had submitted a draw to completely empty out the construction account. Can you believe that anyone would be so brazenly dishonest?
I told her to just tell him that I had not authorized the draw and that he would have to contact my attorney. My phone rang a few minutes later and I let it go to voice mail. The message was a profanity laden diatribe accusing me of stealing his hard work and refusing to pay the sub contractors.
I couldn’t help myself, I had to call the jerk.
“I’ll make sure the subs get paid, they did their work. But I will rot in hell before I give you one more red cent of my hard earned money.â€
He hung up on me. Thank God that sweet woman at the mortgage company was aware enough and kind enough to call me instead of just cutting him a check. There was no way he was going to pay any of the subcontractors with that money. He would have just kept it and the only way I could have gotten it back would be to sue him.
To be continued….
