I took a little while off from working on/thinking about the house after the lawsuit ended, because I was just sick and tired of working on/thinking about the house. Now, though, I’m rested up and ready to take it on. I started at the very bottom…
In an effort to save money, I decided to stain the concrete on the floor of my basement rather than carpet it. For one thing, I’ve had two major floods down there already (one time the water heater leaked and another time the filtration system for my water malfunctioned), and, for another I’ve seen some pretty snazzy stained concrete floors in restaurants and the like lately.
A friend of a friend is an artist and has been doing concrete staining on the side because the art business is a hard way to make a living. I called him and he came up and took a look. I made him dinner while he planned out some cool ideas for my floor.
This is what he came up with:
kinda cool, huh? I love the way it looks and it was a fraction of what carpeting or wood flooring would be.
And yes, that is a towel stuck in my door. Don’t ask…
Anyway, it took about two weeks to do it because you put one layer down and then look at it for a while and then add another layer and then another and on and on until it looks right. It seems as though he has been showing up here every other night about dinner time. I wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that he is a young, starving artist who hardly ever gets a home cooked meal?
hummm…. nahhh can’t be that!
