A few days ago, Dick’s attorney called my attorney to see if we could settle anything before the hearing. I think it’s occurred to him that old Dicky boy may not have the money to pay the fees he’ll incur during a long drawn out court battle.
They decided that Dick and I should talk on the phone directly, so I called him. He started out a little humble, admitting that there were “some problems†with the house and that perhaps we could come to an agreement, especially if I was willing to let him do the work (yeah, right that’s going to happen!)
I asked him directly what problems his expert had found and he said that there was really nothing that couldn’t be fixed with some additional supporting beams and posts. He used the deck as an example, saying that a single additional post could stop the swaying and make it as “good as newâ€. When I asked him why he hadn’t done it right in the first place, he got a little huffy and asked me if I was going to nit pick at every single little thing. I said basically, yes – it’s my home and I want it done right.
His take on it is that most of it is cosmetic and really not structural, so he doesn’t understand why I am so upset. It kind of went downhill from there and he hung up on me. So, off to court we go!
