I bought this because I loved the first book by this author, Seabiscuit. Although the writing in this wasn’t quite as good (IMHO) as it was in Seabiscuit, Ms. Hillenbrand has again found a completely compelling true story to tell. Louie Zamperini was an Olympic class runner whose life was blessed with an amazing talent and a resilient spirit. His story of being shot down and adrift at sea for 47 days and then captured and tortured by the Japanese is at times almost unbelievable. I had to keep reminding myself that this was a true story.
The research is impeccable and the story is riveting.
Read it!

In complete agreement with you – an incredible read – my only mistake was often reading a few chapters right before bedtime – my sleep was often troubled and disturbed thinking about what this person went through.
I lovelovelove true stories….so I’ll lovelovelove this:) Thanks!
I saw something in the news about this book–sounds like a riveting read. I cannot imagine what is was like to experience those years of torture.
It does sound like a good one!
I LOVED Seabiscuit so I will probably love this book. Thanks for the recommendation!
Wonderful review. Truth always seem to be more dramatic and unbelievable than fiction.
Worth a try to read this book. Thanks!
Letter U
I have it on my Kindle – my husband also recommended it to me.
I haven’t read that book yet but it does sound interesting. Visiting from Alpha-Thursday.
Yes, thank you for your recommendation lMuchas, try to read it.
It sounds like an amazing book! I love reading non fiction books 🙂
always great to get a review of a book by another ‘regular’ person, not a famous author or publisher blurbs. i will put this on my list of books to read.
I’ve thought about reading this and then wondered if it would be more distressing to read such an account than I am bargaining for these days. Thanks for your take on it, because I am definitely drawn to the story.
=)
This sounds like a wonderful book! I will have to add it to my reading list.
I read this book! It took me 3 months! It was very griping and I had bought the book because my son is a runner and I thought it would be a good read! War is always so sad and the book was so depressing. But I thought it was wonderfully written and I was surprised that Mr. Zamperini is still living and still an inspirational speaker. Thanks for the great share!
I love a good recommendation – thank you!
It does sound riveting. I’m behind in my blog reading, so I caught this and your pork post at the same time….oh, my…dinner looks amazing!
One of the best books I have read in a very long time. I like you had to keep reminding myself that this was a true story.
Glad you did a review on it
Hope all is well and you have a wonderful weekend
Love ya
