Cider Cinnamon Cranberry Sauce

I made this for my family over the Holiday and it was a big hit! It’s festive, pretty and tasty. I’m planning on making it again a few times before the end of the year because it has all of my favorite Holiday flavors in one bowl!

It would be wonderful on a Christmas buffet table.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups apple cider
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 2 bags fresh cranberries

Instructions

  1. Combine the apple cider, sugar, water and cinnamon stick in a saucepan
  2. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring to dissolve the sugar
  3. Add the cranberries, bring to a simmer and cook, stirring occasionally until most of the cranberries have burst, about 10 minutes
  4. Cool to room temperature, cover and refrigerate for at least 24 hours
  5. Remove the cinnamon stick and stir before serving

I love this recipe because you can (and should) make it a few days ahead so it’s one less thing to worry about when you’re trying to get a big meal to come all together at the same time.

It’s another Williams Sonoma holiday recipe – they really have some great ideas on their site

I bet this cranberry sauce tastes wonderful with apple juice. I usually make my sauce with grated orange peel but I just may have to try this recipe this year!

I use orange peel and chunked apples and oranges with the cranberries, but your cider/cinnamon combination sounds tartly delicious. Also, easy!

good idea, to make it before time, when you have a big dinner to prepare. I usually don’t like cranberries, except with apples and wardolf salad. And I love cinnamon! {:-D

I will definitely try this. Cranberry sauce is one of my favorite parts of a turkey dinner or even a roast chicken one. Like the cinnamon touch. Thanks.

      Esther Joy,

It comes together in a flash, but tastes like it took far longer to make…

I’m sure I’d enjoy that recipe, but I’d be making it for myself since none of my family will eat cranberries.

Yummm. I have yet to make cranberry sauce fresh. Always thought it would be too much work. Your recipe is perfect for me to try. I like your new look. It took me awhile to find your C post for which I’m glad. I found a few other recipes I’d like to try.
